Ocean Week came to a raucous end Monday afternoon when the entire school paraded around the playground, showing off their habitat hats and shouting out the names of the zones each class studied. From kindergartners yelling “Ponds!” and sporting dragonflies and lilypads to 5th graders looking rather dignified in their tall green Kelp Forest hats, there was lots of love for all watery habitats. It was a lovely end to a week of interdisciplinary immersion into ocean studies with Lawrence Hall of Science’s MARE (Marine Activities, Resources and Education). Thanks to all the parent speakers, experts who spoke on everything from salmon conservation to tidepools to scuba diving, Ellen Oppenheimer for her fabulous art projects, and especially Sarah Pedemonte for making it all possible!
