The Walkathon is our only student-powered fundraiser, where students get the satisfaction of contributing financially to their school.

Parents are needed to:

  • Help your student gather pledges
  • Volunteer or provide baked goods on the day of the event (contact juliannaphillips AT yahoo DOT com)

It’s easy for out-of-town family and friends to donate. Just click the “Sponsor Walkers ONLINE” link on the left and you’ll be directed to a secure donation site. Please enter the name of the student you are donating to, so he or she can get credit!

This was especially exciting because the judges were famous bay area filmmakers: director, editor, and cinematographer Mike Shane, and legendary Bay . . . → Read More: Film Festival Success]]> The three Peralta student films that screened at the Albany Film Festival on Saturday were very well received, and “The Land Beneath Our Feet” was nominated as a finalist for Best Children’s Film!


This was especially exciting because the judges were famous bay area filmmakers: director, editor, and cinematographer Mike Shane, and legendary Bay Area filmmaker Les Blank. So it was really an honor to be seen and picked as one of the best by these accomplished folks from the field! There was lots of applause after each film, especially “Trash Elimination” by Ms. Ana’s class. People really cheered after that one screened!

Kicking off the festival at noon will be “Things That Spin,” an animation piece by Ms Larsen’s and Ms Hackett’s second graders last year. During that 1st hour there will also be a screening of “Trash Elimination,” created by Ms Ana’s 4/5th graders from last year, and  “Land Beneath Our Feet,” a history of the East Bay done in paper cutouts by 1st graders in Ms Lucker’s class last year.

A few last minute reminders:
  • Programs went home in backpacks today. Check out the full schedule of events.
  • We’ll of course be selling a great new set of shirts with this year’s logo at the event, in all sizes. They will be on sale for cash near the ticket booth.
  • We’re offering kids the chance to screen their own clothing as well! Bringing your shirt to screen is a great form of re-use. The paints that we’re using are non-toxic, and will not hurt the drains or bay.
  • We’ll have extra shirts for those who forget theirs. Bring old clothes to donate.
  • Bring lots of cash for tickets—kids burn through them fast!
  • Don’t forget your cake.
  • Other reminders? Bring your own fork! The pork is smoking tonight.
