Families of students presently in grades 3-5 will have some experience with the testing protocol as well as some idea about the content of the CST from reviewing the Released Questions. Since second graders have not taken the test before, parents may find it useful to explore the samples available on the State website.

It is very important that children arrive ON TIME and we ask that any medical appointments get scheduled in the afternoon. Students arriving late will not be permitted to enter the classrooms. During testing, we will ask everyone to bring in a box of crackers or some low salt, low sugar munchies for the classrooms. Thanks for your support.

Of course we remind the children how great they are and we want them to do their best, as always. All classes learn test taking strategies and we have little reminders to keep all of us engaged. We come up with phrases such as “stay on it” while we acknowledge the resilience needed to handle these standardized assessments. The draft testing schedule is:

Tuesday, 5/1 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Wednesday, 5/2 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Thursday, 5/3 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Tuesday, 5/8 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Wednesday, 5/9 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Thursday, 5/10 from 9:00-10:30 AM

Because they helped create this stunning quilt!

Artist-in-residence Ellen Oppenheimer and dozens of Peralta students have put many hours into this unique work of art, which will be raffled off at the Peralta in Bloom Festival on May 12.

Quilts are a Peralta tradition, and the raffle is our oldest fundraiser, now in its 15th year. Peralta quilts have been displayed around the world, including at the American embassey in Moscow, and featured in an exhibit at the San Francisco Airport.

Now it’s time for you to start selling tickets! Together, we can raise thousands of dollars for Peralta’s art and enrichment programs.

Check your child’s backpack for a green information sheet and 30 raffle tickets for your family to sell. Olders students may be able to sell tickets themselves—younger students will need a little help. At $1 each or 6 tickets for $5, they are easy to sell to friends, neighbors, family and co-workers. If you need more tickets, please see Sonia in the library.

Tickets and stubs are due back to the library by Friday, May 11. The drawing will be May 12 at Peralta in Bloom.

If you aren’t able to sell your tickets, please return them to the library so someone else can sell them. We have some kids who are champion ticket sellers, and like to sell hundreds of tickets.

Peralta Elementary’s 10th annual SpringFest, known as Peralta in Bloom, is just over a month away! Save the date Saturday, May 12 for a fun-filled day for the whole family, featuring live music, a fresh barbecue, baked goods and cakes, a smoothie station, and fresh vegetable rolls from 12-4 pm!

We’ve planned arts and crafts activities, from jewelry-making to sun-prints, as well as silkscreening, and carnival favorites like a bouncy house, climbing wall, cotton candy, and free face-painting! A DJ will be spinning tunes for a mean cake walk that is a traditional center-piece of SpringFest — this is a REALLY BIG fair!

So bring your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and of course aunts, uncles, and grandfolk to this great community event! Peralta in Bloom welcomes the entire community. The theme of this year’s SpringFest, Cultivating the Local, means that we’ll be featuring locally sourced foods as well as cool local activities from jam-making to pickling, as well as seedling plantings and many garden games!
