The annual Peralta auction is coming March 3. Read all about it! The auction is a fun adults-only party and a means to generate funds for school programs that support our kids. Each Peralta family has something unique to donate – hosting a small or large party, handmade jewelry, a gift certificate for a homemade treat, an educational outing for kids, just to name a few. Spring enrichment classes

Peralta’s Enriching And Creative Environment (P.E.A.C.E.) after-school spring enrichment class options were sent home with students late last week. To enroll, return the enrollment form to the P.E.A.C.E. office by Friday, January 13th!

Letter from State Senator Loni Hancock

This letter is from State Senator Loni Hancock, whose grandchild attended our school. Senator Hancock asks for our help in securing important organizations in K-12 education, such as the California Arts Council. Given recent problems in securing funding for the Arts Council by a 2/3 majority, she asks us to show support for SCA15, a constitutional amendment that reduces the threshold required to secure funding for groups like the California Arts Council to half. The legislation will help secure state investment in the arts in public education, a value close to Peralta’s heart!

Kindergarten Open House and Tours

Oakland Unified’s 2012-2013 enrollment period runs from December 5, 2011 to January 20, 2012. If you are interested in enrolling your child at Peralta, please attend one of our tours and our Kindergarten Open House, Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 6:30-8:00PM (new date!). Come meet our principal and Kindergarten teachers, and learn more about Peralta. (Childcare is not provided, please make alternate arrangements.)

Parent volunteers will give weekly tours November through January. Please contact Peralta Secretary Cathy Wong at (510) 879-1450 to sign up for one of these tours.

Oakland Unified School District is also hosting an Options Help Night on Thursday, December 1, from 6:00–7:30PM at Garfield Elementary School, 1640 22nd Ave, Oakland CA 94606. This will be a great opportunity to acquaint yourself to the many aspects of the enrollment process.

The AspiraNet Oakland After School program is hosting a fun-filled event for families on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 10am-noon at Acorn Woodland Elementary/Encompass Academy at 1025 81st Ave, Oakland. The Peralta Walkathon is coming!

Sunday, Oct. 16th from 12:30-4:00 PM

Rain or shine, Peralta students will be walking laps around the school, most of them walking 4, 6, 8 or more miles (!) to raise money to support their art, music, sports, language and other school programs. The Walkathon is our only student-powered fundraiser, where students get the satisfaction of contributing financially to their school.

Parents are needed to:

Help your student gather pledges
Volunteer or provide baked goods on the day of the event (contact juliannaphillips AT yahoo DOT com)

It’s easy for out-of-town family and friends to donate. Just click the “Sponsor Walkers ONLINE” link on the left and you’ll be directed to a secure donation site. Please enter the name of the student you are donating to, so he or she can get credit!
