All parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend Back-to-School Night, where you will meet your children’s teacher/s and hear about expectations for the year. Teachers use this night to give families the information they need to support their children, so please plan to have at least one adult from your family attend.

Childcare for this event is extremely limited, so please make every effort to arrange for care outside of school. Childcare will be available for those who can’t make other arrangements (in other words, don’t let childcare stop you from coming!).

Peralta’s new sliding-scale after-school program P.E.A.C.E. (Peralta’s Enriching and Creative Environment) is off to a busy start. Nearly 200 children—about 2/3rds of the school—have enrolled in the program. This is an unprecedented level of enrollment for Peralta after-school programs, and the staff is working hard to serve them all.

If you are enrolled in P.E.A.C.E. or if you are curious about the program, please attend the orientation meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. You will receive your childrens’ class assignments at that time. Site Coordinator Sherice Tyler and P.E.A.C.E. staff will be there to give an overview of the program and to answer questions.

First Week Schedule: Welcome Back!

As usual, the first week of school will be a busy one. Please note there will be minimum days all week, with school dismissed at 1:25 p.m. The P.E.A.C.E. program will be open during the first week, offering care from 7:30 a.m. before school through 6 p.m. after school beginning on the first day. Sunday, Aug. 29: Class lists posted outside the office, 5 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 30: First day of school, 8:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 1: Peralta Parent Teacher Group Activities Fair and Meeting. Dinner at 6 p.m. (pizza provided, bring a side dish to share if you like). Meeting at 6:30. Come learn about fun ways you can help at Peralta this year. All families are required to pitch in.

Monday, Sept. 6: Labor Day. No school!

Tuesday, Sept. 7: Full-day schedule begins. School runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. every day except Wednesdays, which are minimum days with 1:25 p.m. dismissal. Please check the full calendar for additional minimum days throughout the year.

Get Ready for School—Get Our School Ready!

Many hands are still needed to get campus in shape for opening day.

We need help with:

• Friday, August 27, 9am-5pm: Teachers will be at Peralta, prepping their rooms. Among the tasks (but not limited to these):

- Sonia needs help putting the library together; kids can help!

- Linda Hughes is looking for tennis balls (new or old) for classroom chair legs and someone to put them install them

• Thursday/Friday, August 27-28 (day or evening)—Misc. jobs around school (please see/call Rosette or Paul in the office to help):

- Remove staples from the exterior walls

- Dana street entrance: Staple removal, “flag” posting, water pressure clean entrance and walls

- Multi-purpose room: Remove pictures from exterior wall and 63rd St. wall

-Hang a large whiteboard on the wall in Classroom 10 (room directly to your right as you enter off of Dana St)

- Install a projector mount in Portable E, Ms. Hughes classroom (bring an electric drill/screwdriver)

• Saturday, August 28: Friday folder stuffing will take place in the teachers’ lunch room. More hands make for light work! The time for this hasn’t been set yet; please contact Alison Wellsfry (wellsfry36 AT yahoo DOT com) for more info.

Picnic for New Peralta Families, August 28

All incoming families are invited to join us for a picnic on Saturday, August 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Peralta.

The picnic is a chance for children to meet future classmates, tour the school, and ask questions. Peralta Secretary Hellen Richardson will also be there to provide information and answer questions. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
