Peralta Auction 2012

What is the auction?

Get ready for the best party of the year! Come out to enjoy Uptown Saturday Night on March 3, 2012 from 5-11pm for dinner, silent and live auctions, music and dancing to tunes spun by Peralta’s own talented DJ Tess Unger! We’ll be partying out of the Uptown Body and Fender building at 401 26th Street in Oakland, graciously made available by owner Giovanna Tanzillo!

Tickets are on sale now, and cover a delicious dinner presented by Peralta dad Brian Espinoza. Tickets are $20/adult if purchased ahead of time (that helps us to plan), or $25/adult at the door. Grandmas and grandpas, aunties, uncles and adult friends are all more than welcome too! Click the auction link on the left to buy your tickets now.

This is an adults-only party (alcohol will be served), so we’ve arranged some childcare at the school for 100 kids (students and potty-trained siblings only). The kids will be cared for by familiar after-school staff, led by PEACE coordinator Sherice Tyler at a very reasonable price! Buy KidCare tickets online when you purchase your auction tickets.

Why an auction?

The chief goals are to raise much-needed money for the school, have fun and build community. We are planning a memorable party so that amid the serious work of bidding, there’s time for mingling… and dancing too! The auction is the school’s biggest springtime fundraiser and provides a critical chunk of change to the PPTG’s annual budget. Think – Peralta’s art, music, sports programs, librarian and the teacher support staff.

How does the auction work?

Volunteers have been soliciting donations from local merchants for items like restaurant gift certificates, hand-made jewelry, and summer camps. Some of those items become part of our online auction, which runs February 20 through February 27. People bid on products and services online, and when the  online auction closes, the highest bidder gets the prize (sort of like Ebay)!

The second part of the auction is the Uptown Saturday Night event on March 3 where we have a silent auction with tables of items to bid on, raffles, and a live auction with a real auctioneer. Whether you are looking to meet other parents, find serious discounts, or just have fun while supporting programs for our kids, you’ll find it all at one place!

Donations from me?

The donations from Peralta families make it unique and profitable. Peralta families have offered events like dinners, playdates, trips to the Giants game, babysitting, parties, hand-made jewelry and more. The auction works best if we have great things to offer people. The donations can be products or services you offer personally or something you buy that you then offer to auction.

Our biggest hits have been Pay to Play events where a family hosts a poker night or movie night. Some families offer dinner parties or play dates. You pay for the donation (ingredients for your breakfast event, tickets to Chabot Space and Science Center, tour of the Academy of Sciences) and then people bid on the chance to attend your event. You decide how many people will attend your event. All money raised goes to Peralta. And you get to know other parents and Peralta kids – some of whom you might not have met yet!

How do I donate something to be auctioned?

The deadline for donating an auction item is officially past, but we won’t turn you down. You can either make your donation online (click the auction image on the left side of the page) or email us.

I’m not sure I can afford to attend.

We don’t want that to stop you from joining the party. It’s such a fun night out and you deserve to be there! Please talk to Ms. Yvonne Meyers (Parent Liaison – her office is in the school’s main office) about discount/free tickets.

Is there anything you need from me?

We could use some more help the day of the event. Many hands make light work! There will be some sign-ups sent around soon. If you can come by for an hour or two on March 3 to help decorate, help sell raffle tickets during the event, or pour drinks at the bar, you’d really help the party run smoothly!
