Dear Friend of Peralta School,
As you probably know, Peralta Elementary School experienced a devastating fire late on the night of Monday, March 26. Our beautiful school suffered extensive damage, particularly to the library, entrance hall, administrative wing, kindergarten rooms and vibrant garden courtyard. Fortunately, our community is strong and committed to ensuring the well being of our children and each other. Peralta will survive and thrive.
We realize that we can count on Oakland Unified to rebuild the structure of the building, to fix our electricity and communications systems, and to replace our destroyed furniture. However, the full restoration of Peralta’s beautiful campus will take much more. Peralta students, staff and parents have spent decades carefully creating and tending a colorful and vibrant school environment that was a model urban school. It will take a significant effort on the part of our entire community to re-create this treasured oasis.
We are fully committed to the hard work before us, and know we will need to reach out to our broader community for the resources we will need in this effort. To this end, we are launching Peralta Rising: Renew. Rebuild. Regrow, a fund drive to raise $75,000 by June 1, to support the healing and rejuvenation of our school. These funds will support new public art, books, and gardens to replace that which was destroyed, and will also allow us to provide activities and services for our students and school community to support true healing from this event.
Please consider making as generous a tax-deductible contribution as possible to the Peralta Rising campaign!!
Checks can be made payable to the Peralta Parent Teacher Group or donations can be made online.
On behalf of the Peralta community, thank you for your support!
