It’s not just for parents!
The Peralta Fund isn’t just for parents. Grandparents and other relatives are common contributors to the Peralta Fund, as well. We encourage you to tell grandparents, other relatives, neighbors, and friends about the important programs that the Peralta Fund pays for and send them the link to our online donation site. A great way for these people to support the kids they love is to support their school!
Each September, we ask Peralta families to contribute to the Peralta Fund, which supports the variety of programs paid for by the Peralta Parent Teacher Group (PPTG). The Peralta Fund helps pay for:
- Music
- Art
- Tutoring
- Science
- Sports
- Classroom aides
- Mental health services
- Field trips
- Garden upkeep and learning programs
- Anti-violence curriculum (Second Step)
- Earthquake and disaster preparedness
- And other enrichment programs that make Peralta the school that you want to send your child to!
Over 80% of our students’ families contribute to the Peralta Fund, usually with monthly payments. Make your donation online now or bring your donation to the main office at Peralta. Donations to the Peralta Fund are tax-deductible.
How much should we contribute?
Many families ask how much they should consider donating to the Peralta Fund. Last year, donations ranged from $3,000 ($250 a month) to $10 per child. When deciding how much to contribute, you may want to consider how much you paid for childcare before Peralta (such as preschool, daycare, or a caregiver) as well as how much you would pay if your child didn’t go to Peralta and instead attended a private or parochial school. Unfortunately, money from the school district does not cover the expenses of a comprehensive education like the one your child receives at Peralta. Donations to the Peralta Fund help fill that gap.
Is this year any different?
Donations in the past to the Peralta Fund have been amazing and have supported very important programs for our students. In the face of extreme budget cuts at the district level as well as limited outside funding this year, we are asking all parents to reexamine their contributions and “dig a little deeper” this year if they can. With funding cuts from the district and other sources, PPTG is being asked to cover expenses that we didn’t have to pay for in the past, such as:
- Programs to help classroom learning even as our class sizes increase, such as classroom aides
- Our award-winning art program, since outside grants for this have dried up
- Substitute teachers to cover days when teachers need to do one-on-one assessments with their students
- Supplies – all that paper and those pencils, white board markers, and everything else that our teachers need to teach our children!
The PPTG needs the income to cover these additional items as well as to continue to pay for all the things we have paid for in the past. If we don’t have the funds, we won’t be able to continue to offer these services to our students.
