Walk, Roll, or Scoot to School on Wednesday, April 6

The sun is out, the mornings are light and Wednesday, April 6 is another Walk/Bike/Roll/Bus/Train/Carpool-to-School Day.

If you drive, consider parking a few blocks from school and walking the rest of the way with your kids. Stop by the prize table on your way in—there will be free goodies!

This is a free event. In fact I will give you something back. I am not asking for your money, blood, sweat or tears, just a little extra effort to minimize the vehicle traffic to school.

Open House for Prospective Families, Thursday Dec. 9

Please join us from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday to learn more about Peralta.

This information night is a great chance to hear about Peralta’s programs and school culture, to meet our principal Rosette Costello and the kindergarten teachers, and to ask questions. Families with incoming kindergartners, as well as upper-grade transfer students, are welcome to attend.

You can also schedule a tour to get a deeper look at our school. Parent volunteers will give weekly tours on alternate Tuesday and Thursdays through January 11. Click here for more details.

Yard Sale Outdoes Itself

Huge shouts out to Heather Grillmeyer and Nicole Aruda for their above-and-beyond organizing of the yard sale last Saturday! The sale required a huge amount of logistical planning before, during, and after. They pulled it off, bringing in a record $5,000 for Peralta programs. So let them know how much you appreciate their efforts (especially since they’ve agreed to do it for one more year!).

The annual sale is a joint effort of the Lower Rockridge Parents Group and the Peralta Parent Teacher Group. Thanks to all who donated, and the dozens of volunteers who helped the day run smoothly. And thanks to all the bakers, as well as bakesale organizers Cinthia Andrus and Kellene Kaiser, for the sweet treats.

Peralta Spelling Bee

Congratulations to fifth grader, Lilah August who last Thursday became the Peralta Spelling Bee Champion and will represent Peralta at the District Spelling Bee on February 4. Cheers to fourth grader, Max French who will be an alternate.

Congratulations also to all 4th & 5th grade participants invited to the second round based on their performance on a written spelling assessment: Josie, Jayla, Stewart, Lincoln, Kai, Lucas, Kobe, Josh, Darian, Jazmyn, Adrian, Leila, Alma, Tiana, Devin, Eddie, Luca, Gus and Ruby.

OUSD Spelling Bee (Elementary School Level)
When: Thursday, February 4, 2010 | 5-6:15pm
Where: Havenscourt Campus Auditorium, 1390 66th Ave.
Who: School site winners in grades 4 & 5, site coaches and coordinators, interested parents and observers
What: Oral competition with multiple rounds of increasing difficulty resulting in a winner and several runners-up who will go on to county competition.
Why: Celebrate excellence, honor student achievement, and prepare for county competition!
