Peralta in Bloom! [Spring Festival]

Fun times at Peralta in BloomThis year’s Peralta in Bloom Spring Festival will be on May 18, 2013, 12-4 pm.

The event known as Peralta in Bloom is an annual spring festival for the whole community and school that celebrates everyone’s achievements at the year’s end with inspiring activities for parents, for kids, and for the entire local community. Peralta in Bloom has events for different ages, including great live music, fresh food and a bbq, arts and crafts projects, a climbing wall, a petting zoo, cartooning with Lloyd Dangle, and the exciting emcee’d cakewalk featuring beautiful cakes donated and designed by parents. This year’s event includes expanded carnival games, cool prizes for kids, a basket raffle, and the raffle of a new quilt designed by Ellen Oppenheimer and Peralta kids.

The event runs with parent volunteers! From the cotton candy to the climbing wall and bouncy house, we’ll need lots of help both in planning the event as well as on May 18!

Last year’s spring festival we used the theme of conserving through recycling and re-use. The theme recurred in the sales of tomato starts in the garden, in the making of planters from newspapers with Mr. Mac, and Ellen Oppenheimer’s “Quilt in a Day” project for Elizabeth House as well as silk screen-printing of the Peralta in Bloom logo onto recycled tee shirts. We also continue to reduce waste by using compostable plates, and sorting trash in three ‘recycle monsters’—Compostina, Lenny Landfill, and Rerun. This year, we’ll be silk-screening new shirts, as well as featuring fortune telling, cotton candy, donated baked goods, massage and more!
