How to Enroll
Enrollment at Peralta happens through the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). The enrollment window for the 2020-21 school year is November 4, 2019 to February 7, 2020. OUSD enrollment information and application can be found here. By the middle of March you should receive an email specifying your child's school assignment, hopefully Peralta!
More families want to send their kids to Peralta Elementary than there are spots. Admission is not guaranteed, even for families living within the Peralta school boundaries. The OUSD student assignment center controls all admissions.

How old should my child be for Kindergarten?
In 2010, California passed a new law, “The Kindergarten Readiness Act” (SB 1381), that changes the age when children are eligible to enter Kindergarten. Under this new law children must turn 5 years old on or before September 1st of the school year in order to enroll in traditional Kindergarten.
Parents of students who turn 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd of the school year, have priority to register for Transitional Kindergarten. Children with earlier birthdays may attend Transitional Kindergarten once all children with November, October, and September birthdays are served. Transitional Kindergarten is part of the public school system and is free to participating families.
