Oakland teachers have planned a one-day strike on Thursday, April 29 to protest Oakland Unified's decision to end negotiations and impose a contract on them. School will be open but classrooms will be staffed by emergency, non-union substitutes. Peralta teachers will be picketing outside the school. The Oakland Education Association will hold a community outreach meeting at Peralta on Tuesday, April 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. The meeting is sponsored by the Peralta Parent Teacher Group.
Union representatives will share information on the April 29 strike, as well as background on the labor dispute, information on Oakland Unified's finances, and a discussion on the crisis in public education funding in California.
Steve Neat, a 5th grade teacher at Kaiser Elementary and the OEA secretary, will give a half-hour presentation, followed by a 45-minute Q&A.The meeting is open to the North Oakland community. Sorry, but no childcare will be available.
Please come if you have questions about the strike.
